What canvas actually is
Canvas is a plain-woven cotton fabric, or a cotton-polyester blend, woven densely enough to hold its shape. Unlike non-woven polypropylene it is made on a loom from spun yarn, which is why it has visible texture, softens with use and takes a stitched seam properly. It is heavier than every other bag material on this site, it absorbs water rather than shedding it, and it costs several times what an equivalent non-woven bag costs. What you buy with that premium is a bag people keep — which is the whole argument for using it as a merchandise or gifting carrier rather than a checkout bag.

Two bags quoted at the same ounce weight are not necessarily the same fabric. Yarn count, weave density and whether the cotton is combed all affect how the finished bag feels and how print sits on it. When you are comparing quotations, ask for a swatch rather than comparing the number alone. Decorating canvas
Cotton takes decoration differently from synthetic fabric. Ink sits into the weave rather than on top of it, which softens edges and mutes colour slightly.
Screen printing
The default for logos and spot colour. Dense, durable and economical once the screens are made. Fine detail below roughly one millimetre will close up in the weave.
Digital / DTG printing
Photographic and multi-colour artwork with no per-colour setup. Better on short runs; the hand of the print is softer and less opaque than screen.
Embroidery
Stitched thread, priced per thousand stitches. The most durable option and the one that reads as premium on corporate work. Not suitable for fine gradients or small text.
Pigment dyeing
Whole-bag colour applied after make-up, giving a washed, slightly uneven finish. Batch-to-batch shade variation is inherent to the process.
Woven labels and patches
Applied marks rather than printed ones, used where the brand wants a garment-like finish.
Natural cotton is off-white rather than white, and unbleached canvas shifts slightly from lot to lot. If your brand colour is critical, approve a printed swatch on the actual fabric before production rather than approving a screen proof on paper.
Materials and claims
Organic-content and recycled-content cotton can be sourced when a project specifies it, and blended constructions are available where cost or dimensional stability matters. Any certification attached to those materials is arranged for the specific order, issued in the name of the supplying mill, and confirmed to you in writing with the certificate reference before production. We do not describe a fabric as certified unless a certificate exists for that run.

Dimensions
Width × height × gusset, plus handle drop. Measure an existing bag flat if you have one.
Decoration
Print, embroidery or applied label; number of colours; and whether artwork is vector.
Quantity range
A range is fine. Canvas has higher material content than synthetic bags, so quantity breaks behave differently.
Destination and date
Port or door address, and the date you need stock on hand.
How orders are produced and checked
Canvas make-up is coordinated through an SGS-verified facility in Wenzhou and its audited sewing partners. Fabric is checked for weight and shade against the approved swatch before cutting; measurement, stitch density, seam strength and print or embroidery position are checked at defined intervals during production; and a pre-shipment inspection follows ISO 2859-1 AQL sampling before the shipment is released.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a cotton bag and a canvas bag?
Canvas is a heavier, denser weave of the same fibre. A bag described simply as cotton is usually a lighter sheeting or drill fabric with more drape and less structure. Both are cotton; canvas is the constructional end of the range.
What is the minimum order quantity?
It depends on fabric weight, decoration method and whether the fabric is a stock line or has to be sourced for the order. Embroidered heavyweight canvas and screen-printed lightweight canvas sit at different points. Your minimum is stated in the quotation.
How much will a canvas tote carry?
A well-made 12 oz tote with double-stitched webbing handles handles a normal grocery load comfortably and will do so repeatedly. Capacity is governed by handle fixing and base construction as much as by fabric weight, so tell us what it has to carry and we will specify against it.
Will the colour match my brand exactly?
Close, but printed ink on woven cotton reads slightly differently from the same colour on coated paper or on laminated film. We produce a printed fabric swatch for approval so you see the actual result before production rather than judging from a screen.
Can canvas bags be washed?
Cold hand-wash is generally safe for unlined canvas with screen print or embroidery. Shrinkage of a few per cent is normal on untreated cotton. If washability matters, say so and we will specify pre-shrunk fabric and a suitable ink system.
How long does production take?
Canvas is cut and sewn rather than welded, so labour content is higher than on non-woven bags and lead time reflects that. Quantity, decoration method and sampling rounds all move it. The figure is stated in your quotation and confirmed on the order confirmation.
